them, it is interesting to understand <\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">who can join Renewable Energy Communities<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"none\"> and how to do so.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span data-contrast=\"none\">Who can join an REC?<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">Both individuals<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"none\"> and <\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">legal entities<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"none\"> can become <\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">Participation is intended to be <\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">voluntary<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"none\">. Each participant must be<\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"none\"> connected via a grid connection<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"none\"> point that refers to the <\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">same primary substation<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"none\"> as the facility at hand.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span data-contrast=\"none\">How to join a Renewable Energy Community?<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">To create a REC, the first step is to<\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"none\"> identify the area for the installation of the renewable energy plant<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"none\"> and then <\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">establish a legal entity<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"none\"> with open and voluntary participation representing those who will be members of the community. The plant <\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">must not exceed 1 MW<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"none\"> and must be <\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">directly controlled by the REC<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"none\">, even when given to a third party to operate. The plant <\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">must be connected to the power grid through a primary substation<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"none\">, which is the one referred to by all ERC participants.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">At this point, <\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">in order to join a Renewable Energy Community<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"none\">, one prerequisite is necessary: to be among the <\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">eligible entities<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"none\"> mentioned above, according to what is the current regulation. In addition, you can apply for membership according to the regulations set by the ERC in which you want to participate.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Each member of the community must <\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">install or have installed a meter<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"none\">, called a smart meter, for <\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">tracking its self-consumption<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"none\">. <\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">This determines how much energy you produce<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"none\"> and <\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">consume and how much energy you release to the grid<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"none\">.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span data-contrast=\"none\">Why join a Renewable Energy Community?<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">First, RECs have <\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">government incentives for the kilowatt-hours<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"none\"> self-consumed by the members themselves, and to access these incentives, the REC must accredit itself to the GSE (Gestore dei Servizi Energetici), which will disburse them monthly to the Community and they will then be shared among all its members.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">This leads to a <\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">reduction in energy costs<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"none\">, as the more energy self-consumption, the greater the incentives received. In addition, the economic benefits disbursed by the GSE can be freely distributed within each REC, either by sharing them among the members of the REC itself or by investing them in the
